Stella Maxey - 6th Grade - "The Wishing Tree's Resistance"

"I'm hopeful because people can resist negativity. The trash around the tree represents people who stake all of their hopes on a single thing like diet or exercise or anything but themselves, but why not themselves? You can do anything if you try hard enough. The tree represents the people who place their hopes on themselves. They work hard for their goals and resist the temptation to stake their hopes on something that will only hurt them in the end or cause them to give up on themselves."

Alex Maxey - 8th Grade

"I chose this photo because it represents the idea that people grow into the people they want to be. This photo makes me feel hopeful because of the sun shining on the plant. The sun represents happiness, creativity and most importantly, hope. I hope because people have the power to rise  up to any challenges as big as the sun."

Waterfalls by Cora Lattin

Cora Lattin - 6th Grade - "Waterfalls"

"This year's theme is hope, so I wrote a song where major and minor arpeggios alternate. To me, this song can sound like when life gets tough and sad things happen. But slowly the sun comes out and so the song ends in a major key. I think that this song portrays however when life is hard, there's always room for hope."

Music Comp
Happy Hope by Jordan Alexander

Jordan Alexander - 6th Grade - "Happy Hope"

"I put the song in a happy and fun tune to express that you can be happy with hope. The song ties in with the theme 'I am hopeful because...' because I wrote a light and uplifting tune to it."

Janice and Angela Freeman - 6th Grade - "We Are Hopeful"

Performed by best friends who met at LaVilla this year, this song references making friends, lunch, art areas, drama at school, and being hopeful because you have good friends to get through it all. Adjusting to middle school can be tough, but you have to be hopeful.

HopeisFoundbyAmySmith.png

Amy Smith - 6th Grade -"Hope is Found"

"There is always hope even in the darkest times. When you're lost there is always the possibility you'll be found and when there is darkness, there is always a little light. In this poem, the author is talking to this character or the reader if they are feeling lost. They are telling them to look at it a different way because we often forget to."

HidinginPlainSightbyArianaWilke

Ariana Wilke - 6th Grade - "Hiding in Plain Sight"

"I think that this relates to them because sometimes we feel down. We feel that we can't continue. But I know from personal experience that we have to be hopeful if we want to be successful in life. Also, a lot of people think hopefulness and happiness are unreachable in life but it's always there; hidden in plain sight."
